Albumin is the major protein in human plasma (40-60%). It is produced in the liver depending on protein uptake. Albumin in fecal samples indicates an inflammatory reaction combined with intestinal bleeding. Elevated levels of albumin and hemoglobin in stool are not only found in connection with colorectal carcinomas, but also with polyps and chronic inflammatory diseases (Morbus Crohn oder Colitis Ulcerosa).
